Vengeance

Prologue
By Geraldine Cheong

It was a chilly night. The sky was pitch black, not a single star hung in it. The moon was nowhere to be seen. Shadows spread throughout the land. Silence reigned. Everything seemed still and dead.

Somewhere in France...
Hidden by the dark shroud of the night, the young woman sat alone. Thinking. Brooding. Of 'him'. His gentle touch, the feel of his fingers running through her hair, his soft breath as his lips brushed lightly against her cheek, the sound of his laughter echoing through her mind. His betrayal. The silence was abruptly cut off by someone knocking at her door.

"Come in," her voice was emotionless, not betraying the hint of sadness she was feeling. The door swung open noiselessly on well-oiled hinges and a slender figure silhouetted against the light from the corridor stepped in. It was Sapphire.

"Was the mission successful?"

"The weather-witch was a piece of cake. A tranquilliser dart did the trick. The other one however put up quite a struggle but I managed to get both of them. They are now shackled in the next room, each with a Genoshan collar on them, as you requested."

"Excellent work! Now take this message to him. Make sure it reaches his hands. Return as soon as possible. We have to prepare for his arrival."

"Are you certain that he will come?"

"Positive."
